Welcome to Mensah Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Bronx, NY. We are a human rights and health centered sanctuary for immigrants, refugees, and asylees from the African diaspora. Our work is rooted in compassion, equity, and the belief that in every home, there is a Mensah a beacon of hope and support.
We provide essential services like free health screenings, mental health counseling, and education, all while advocating for a permanent community center to serve the over 110,000 Africans in the Bronx. Until that dream becomes reality, we continue our mission from borrowed spaces churches, residential community rooms, and local event halls. In every one of these spaces, there is a Mensah a beacon of hope and support for those in need.
At 72, Auntie Abena was a walking timebomb. She had Dizzy spells and Constant fatigue. But like many elders in our community, she ignored the signs. “It’s just old age,” she said. She had stopped trusting anyone who offered help after all, too many promises were made, and few were ever kept.
That changed the day she walked into the Mensah Health Foundation’s West African Diaspora Health Fair.
Skeptical but curious, she came for the free food and music. What she didn’t expect was a team of people who looked like her, spoke her language, and cared enough to follow through. She received a free blood pressure screening and it was dangerously high. Our team immediately helped her connect with a clinic, explained her insurance options, and even followed up after the event to ensure she got the care she needed.
Now, Auntie Abena is thriving. Her hypertension is under control, she walks every morning, and she proudly shares her story with others in the community.
“Mensah Health Foundation didn’t just help me they gave me hope. They showed up, they followed through, and they didn’t forget about me. That means everything.”
Auntie Abena, Bronx Resident
